Solo Female Traveller

As a solo female traveller I have been to many different places using various means of transport as well as taking trips with friends and family.

My first long distance solo trip was in December 2015 to India with Voyages Jules Vernes, because there is no single supplement this can work out cheaper than other options. It was a small group of about 12 of us and about half of us were solo travellers, we used a minibus for most of the tour but the last leg was on a local train back to Delhi. We stayed in reasonably comfortable hotels for only 1 or 2 nights each and I had a private room, our group had our own private guide who kept us close by. I went in December which is probably the coolest month. I very much enjoyed the trip and would thoroughly recommend it, I made a few friends, mainly from the UK and some of us kept in touch afterwards.

In 2018 I planned to go on an RSD cultural tour to Morocco with a friend but in the end she could not make it and I ended up being a solo traveller. This was a heavily discounted trip for a much bigger group and there were about 6 coach loads of us with about 30 people per coach, mainly couples but several solo travellers

– we did have to pay a single supplement. This tour was a jam packed first week staying at a different hotel every night, the second week we were staying at an all inclusive resort hotel. The cost to upgrade to all inclusive was probably about the same amount as the whole of the first week, so I decided not to do that and took an early flight home. It looks like RSD don’t do this tour now which is a shame as it was an amazing trip, the guide was excellent as were all of the tours.

I had always wanted to try a cruise and at the beginning of 2020 (pre-covid) the chance came up with a Royal Caribbean 7 night Oman and UAE cruise. I chose this shorter cruise just in case I hated it. In general cruise prices are based on 2 sharing a cabin but I managed to find this cruise which had a discounted single supplement. It turned out there were quite a few solo passengers and even some organised activities for us.

As it turned out covid hit and we were unable to sail away from Dubai but we were free to enjoy any number of excursions in Dubai and I had a great time, I would definitely do another cruise.

After the successful RSD trip to Morocco I decided to do a solo trip with RSD to Turkey, a cultural tour to Cappadocia

My next trip was with Explore. I have several friends who have been on Explore holidays and highly rate them.

This trip economises by travelling by local transport and staying in a selection of simple hotels. Apart from breakfast meals are not included and nor are excursions. However there were plenty of optional excursions on offer organised by our local guides and at reasonable prices. Again it is an action-packed whistle-stop tour with early mornings and full days, staying at 5 different hotels in the 10 days. Our party was made up of 13, mostly solo travellers and a mix of male/female, also there was a wide range of ages with several younger travellers. I had a great time on this trip, our group gelled well and most of us stayed together for meals and free time (if any). I am definitely planning another Explore trip.
